What this does: it tells you what share the "part" is of the "total", expressed as a percentage — how much of a whole something represents.
Example: you scored 42 marks out of a 60‑mark test. Part = 42, Total = 60 → 70%. Same idea works for budgets spent, tasks completed, storage used, or votes received.
